About the event
PYB’s Children’s Author Spotlight
Jaylene Clark Owens & A Black Girl and Her Braids
At Philadelphia Youth Basketball (PYB), we believe young people deserve spaces where they feel seen, heard, and valued—on and off the court.
PYB’s Children’s Author Spotlight is a family-centered literacy experience designed to celebrate storytelling, confidence, and identity. Through shared reading and meaningful conversation, young people are encouraged to explore who they are, express themselves creatively, and see their own stories reflected in the world around them. This special event features children’s author Jaylene Clark Owens, who will read from her book A Black Girl and Her Braids and share the inspiration behind her work. Together, families will explore themes of self-love, cultural pride, and imagination in a warm, welcoming environment created with young people and caregivers in mind.
