As we embark on a new chapter in our journey at PYB, we are excited to introduce our evolving PYB Academy Model—a comprehensive and holistic approach to youth development. This model represents our commitment to providing young people with a multifaceted enrichment experience that goes far beyond the basketball court as we move into our forever home.

The heart of the PYB Academy Model lies in our dedication to nurturing the essential life skills required for success in academics, careers, communities, and life itself. We accomplish this through an innovative fusion of basketball, mentorship, leadership development, and a focus on physical and mental well-being, all underpinned by the principles of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).

Inclusivity is a cornerstone of our approach. The PYB Academy Model is designed to cater to young people of all backgrounds and abilities, offering a range of options tailored to age, skill level, and gender preferences. We believe that every individual should have the opportunity to grow and thrive within our program!

SUMMER 2024 OFFERINGS

Lace Up & Learn Up Summer Camp Series

PYB’s weekly summer camp series consists of on-court skill development, gameplay, physical fitness, and off-court enrichment and activities, including an academic power hour built with a Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) framework. This program also includes a healthy breakfast and lunch. Youth can enroll weekly across all 6 weeks or have the option to pick only the week(s) that work best for their families’ schedule.

Start Date: July 8th, 2024

End Date: August 16th, 2024

Time: 8 AM to 5 PM

Days: Monday through Friday

Age Group: 10-14

Price: $400 per week, with scholarships available for families that qualify

Location: The Alan Horwitz "Sixth Man" Center

Summer Academy

PYB’s Summer Academy is a 6-week program that combines league play with off-court enrichment. It focuses on team play, holistic player development & well-being, and exposure to support their development. A young person can enroll by their age and grade division, grouped by gender and ability. Each young person will be assigned a team and play one game per week. To be eligible for gameplay, participants must attend the non-basketball components of programming.

Start Date: July 8th, 2024

End Date: August 16th, 2024

Time: 6 PM to 8:30 PM

Days: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

Age Group: 10-19

Price: $120, with scholarships available for families that qualify

Location: The Alan Horwitz "Sixth Man" Center

Early Years Program

PYB’s Early Years Summer Program is a 6-week program that combines on-court skill development with off-court early literacy practices. It focuses on building early development physical fitness and basketball skill development coupled with early literacy off-court reading circles.

Age Group: 4-9

Work-Based Learning

PYB's Work-Based Learning Program provides student participants with the opportunity to explore different careers, gain experience from industry leaders, and enhance their skill set for their future careers, through paid internships with business partnerships throughout Philadelphia.

Age Group: 14-19

Magic Academy

PYB's Youth Entrepreneurship Program allows Philadelphia’s high school students to participate in a project-based learning experience with a chance to win a financial contribution to their business, while also learning Business 101, financial literacy, and meeting our city's great entrepreneurs.

Age Group: 14-19

Youth Leadership Council

The Youth Leadership Council consists of Youth Ambassadors participating in various discussions and activities centered around topics related to PYB and The Alan Horwitz “Sixth Man” Center, Powered and Operated by PYB, to grow youth leaders and infuse youth voice into PYB’s organization, programming, and center.

Start Date: Year-Round with Rolling Admissions

Time: 6 PM to 8 PM

Days: Wednesday

Age Group: 14-19

I Am Because We Are

I Am Because We Are (IABWA) is an anti-violence mentorship program that develops young men in their teenage years into the next generation of leaders, Deeply rooted in the African philosophy of "ubuntu" in which our relationships with others shape our sense of self, we combine off court, social-emotional, identity development curriculum with on-court skill building and gameplay.

Start Date: Year-Round with Rolling Admissions

Time: 5 PM to 8 PM

Days: Monday and Tuesday

Age Group: 14-19, Young Men

Price: Free!

Accessing your online portal allows you to update personal information, view your statement, register for classes, and more!

We invite current students, parents of enrolled students, and enrolling families to log in to the RecDesk portal to access clinic sign-ups, enrollment forms, billing accounts, and Sixth Man Center announcements. Along with staying organized, and registering for upcoming clinics, lessons, events, and programming – it will keep your information safe and secure.
