“True strength comes from your vulnerability. You don’t hide from being vulnerable. That is your greatest source of strength and magic that you have within you.”
On March 21st, creator, Philadelphia legend, and ‘Wizenard’, Kobe Bryant visited PYB MSPP school partner, Andrew Hamilton Elementary School, to surprise and read with PYB student-athletes and Andrew Hamilton students!
PYB staff member, Randy Butler, led a discussion about Kobe’s new children’s book, The Wizenard Series: Training Camp, which PYB student-athletes have been engrossed in over the past couple of weeks. Kobe, PYB student-athletes, and Randy Butler, were joined by Kobe’s high school English teacher, Jeanne Mastriano, in a reading circle to trade thoughts about the novel’s life-lessons that transcend the basketball court. Many of the book’s themes align with PYB’s mission, including the power of game of basketball, positive coaching and mentorship, and the importance of strong relationships in a young person’s life.
Following the roundtable discussion, the Andrew Hamilton school community joined in for an assembly featuring Kobe, Jeanne Mastriano, Principal Fatima Smith, Kobe’s High School Coach Gregg Downer, and PYB Co-Founder Doug Young. Following a structured discussion, students participated in a Q&A session with Kobe and guests.

“That is what this book is truly about — having compassion and empathy for others.”
A special thank you to Andrew Hamilton Elementary School for hosting the memorable day’s activities. And many thanks to Kobe for working with our student-athletes off the court to help them reach their full potential as students, athletes, and positive leaders!
