PYB is happy to announce another summer of our Collegiate Summer Camp Series (CSCS), filled with basketball skill development and gameplay, academic enrichment, positive coaching and mentorship, healthy nutrition support, and more! We really enjoyed last year’s camp series, engaging over 450 student-athletes! We are excited to continue to provide the opportunity for our student-athletes to attend camps on Philadelphia’s premiere colleges and universities. More than 600 high school and middle school aged young people will be given the ability to attend these camps over the 2018 summer.
Week 1: Jefferson University (6/18-6/22)
Week 2: Chestnut Hill University (6/25-6/29)
Week 3: St. Joseph’s University (7/9-7/13)
Week 4: Temple University (7/16-7/20)
Week 5: La Salle University (7/23-7/27)
Week 6: To Be Determined
Summer learning loss is a phenomenon that affects nearly all of our country’s children. Once the calendar flips from May to June, with the end of another school year within reach, students’ minds inevitably shift away from classroom learning to the allure of summer vacation. A 2011 study conducted by Rand Education and commissioned by the Wallace Foundation, found that upon returning to school in the fall, students on average performed at a level approximately one month behind that at which they performed before the start of summer. Even more notable is that the study also found that the achievement gap between students from affluent families and those form lower-income families is only widened during the summer months. It is PYB’s intention to provide out city’s boys and girls with a fun and safe environment to grow while visiting the many universities and colleges that Philadelphia has to offer.
