On Wednesday June 21st, Philadelphia Youth Basketball (PYB) hosted its Collegiate Summer Camp Series BBQ at the home of Ed and Brucie Baumstein in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania. The Baumsteins were gracious hosts who not only opened their home (and pool!) to the PYB community, but also their NCAA regulation indoor basketball court for a wonderful evening of food, fun, and fundraising. The BBQ was critical in helping PYB’s end of fiscal year fundraising push, during which we attempted to raise $25,000 to send deserving student athletes through our Collegiate Summer Camp Series Scholarship Fund.

The night started with guests enjoying a social hour inside the Baumstein residence and outside on their patio, backyard, and pool area. There was a multitude of traditional BBQ foods supplied by Raheem Islam and his Dr. Jerkinstein catering staff. Games such as cornhole became popular among the partygoers. The kids from our Middle School Partnership Program took a liking to the Baumstein pool and were able to swim and play in the water.

The gathering then transitioned to the gym for a presentation by the PYB team. Speakers included Ed Baumstein, host of the event; John Langel, Chairman of the PYB Board of Directors; Eric Worley, PYB Program Director and Co-Founder; Rob Meyer, Capital Campaign Director; Al Parker, Board Member and Chair of PYB’s Development Committee, and Kenny Holdsman, President and Co-Founder of PYB. The program also featured the voices of PYB’s student athletes’ during a Q&A session facilitated by Eric Worley.

The rest of the evening was filled with desserts and the sounds of basketballs being dribbled as all of the guests were allowed to play basketball on the Baumstein’s tremendous, NCAA regulation indoor basketball court.

Thank you to everyone that was involved in this event. Your support helped us raise money to offer scholarships to 44 deserving PYB student athletes! We would like to offer a special thank you to our gracious hosts, Ed and Brucie Baumstein, for opening their home, pool, and incredible court to the Philadelphia Youth Basketball team and community for the evening.
