Shawn Gee – Back Board Member Profile March 29, 2016
This month, PYB caught up with Shawn Gee, a community member and businessman serving on PYB’s Board of Directors, to learn more about his experiences growing up in Philadelphia, his love and belief in the game of basketball, and why he is greatly involved with PYB.
Shawn has established himself as a successful businessman and central figure in the entertainment industry. Born and raised in Philadelphia and a Central High School graduate, Shawn attended Millersville University on a basketball scholarship and George Washington University where he received his MBA with a concentration in Finance and Investments. Upon graduation, Shawn worked on Wall Street as Vice President of Citigroup’s Private Client Division. After several years in this position, Shawn decided to trust his ever-present entrepreneurial spirit and created his own company entitled, Sports & Entertainment Financial Group (SEFG Entertainment). Last year, SEFG Entertainment partnered with MAVERICK, one of the largest management companies in the world. Today Shawn finds himself back in the City of Brotherly love as the Chief Operating Officer of MAVERICK’s Philadelphia office, one of the company’s 9 locations. In this role, Shawn is responsible for managing the business activity and cultivating the business relationships of his clients, including The Roots, Jill Scott, Nicki Minaj, and Lil Wayne – just to name a few.
Additionally, Shawn is one of the three partnership principle owners of Philly Triple Threat, a non-profit organization committed to serving youth in and around the Philadelphia area through the three tenants of Education, Athletics, and Life. Founded in 2007, Philly Triple Threat has now grown to provide opportunities to about 500 boys and girls each year. Shawn also serves as the Treasurer on the Triple Threat Foundation Board of Directors.
After learning more about PYB, its transformative mission, and the many reputable individuals who were involved, Shawn openly volunteered to be part of the organization and its cause. Shawn has a deep respect and appreciation for the game of basketball and understands the power that it can have on all lives. Personally, Shawn has reaped many of the sport’s off court benefits and would love to provide Philadelphia’s young people with a place where they can too build life-long friendships, experience comradery, and be exposed to positive and fully-devoted mentors and coaches. Shawn whole-heartedly believes that PYB’s mission and the creation of the all-encompassing facility, to be built within the Logan Triangle of North Philadelphia, will provide multigenerational impact, not just for young people and the basketball community, but also for the long-term legacy of the great city of Philadelphia.
Fun Facts about Shawn: Although Shawn works in the entertainment and music industry, he admits to be a sports fanatic who enjoys going to all kinds of sporting events. Shawn has many friends in the sports world, which comes with many perks including the exchanging of tickets.
