In early June 2017, Philadelphia Youth Basketball will celebrate its 2nd Birthday and prepare for the second year of its Collegiate Summer Camp Series. With this landmark accomplishment in mind, it is important to reflect upon the organization’s mission statement and commitment to empowering young people as students, athletes, and positive leaders. To achieve this mission, we are creating and delivering high quality programming in each of these three domains. Intentionality and purposefulness is required to have an impact in…

Starting as a full-time employee in February 2017, MaryKate is a relatively new member of the Philadelphia Youth Basketball team, but was born and raised in the Philadelphia basketball world. MaryKate grew up in Lafayette Hill, a suburb of Philadelphia, and played basketball competitively since she was seven years old.  For MaryKate basketball is a family game – her Uncle played for Drexel Men’s Basketball from 1982-1986; her father played at La Salle high school, worked as a coach for ten years…

On Monday morning’s at 10:00 am, the PYB staff team gathers for our weekly meeting.  We review a variety of “work flow” related to programming, special events, board committees, fundraising, and community partnerships.  The “meat” of the conversation is sandwiched with a quick warm-up and then a closing reflection about an area of continuous, organizational improvement.
